To this incredible family, all of you, you've lost a brilliant, wonderful creature of God. His physical presence will be hugely mourned for. His spirit, blessedly, will be carried on by all those who he shared his incredible journey with and by all those who he taught how to live ... a great teacher of life! Wow!

Our deepest condolences to the Proudy family. We were shocked by the news of Doug's passing. We have such warm memories of Doug, Yourself, Nick and Alex from our Kid Time days and beyond. My mom still talks about the party at your house for the Kid Time kids. It does not seem possible that Doug is no longer a part of this world. He was such a great guy and always made us feel so welcome. I don't think there are words to express the special gift he gave to those that knew him. We love you all and you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am very sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I went to PHE and PHHS with Doug. I never knew anyone that didn't like Doug or ever had a bad thing to say about him. I don't ever remember him without a big smile on his face. I learned about his passing from Rod VB and my prayers are with his family, but I'm confident that he is in Heaven. I won't forget him. Jeanette,
We are shocked to hear the news of Doug's passing. He is a fighter and just reading his comments about planning for his trip to Palm Springs is so inspiring and insightful of a man on a mission to live life as best he could. I remember the first time I met him and he introduced himself as Doug, but you called him Rock. That was so cool!! We are praying for you and your family and I know that Rock is still looking over you and his family and friends.
May God bless you all.

I just heard about Doug. I'm so sorry. I wish I had known earlier. He was my softball coach in Vienna, Austria. He inspired me in so many ways and helped to develop such a great team. He was always very involved in practices and always had a smile on his face. For me, personally, he helped me in reaching my potential. I remember him fondly and over the years have thought about him from time to time. I am so glad that he decided to blog, as I just found it and feel like I could be a part of his life. Reading his entries makes me realize just how much more amazing he was than I thought I knew. BIG HUGS to your family.

I've known Doug since we were just little guys running around at PHE. As we got older he was too smart to hang around me a lot. We spent lots of time running together in high school and we stayed in touch up until late last year. Doug I know was a great father, husband, brother, son friend and person in general it always brightened my day when he would come by. I will miss him, but never forget his smile and his unique way of being a great guy. God Bless Doug and his family.

I am Rock/Doug’s Sister in Law, married to his brother Chris (little bro). It is apparent you all know how special Rock is, by reading the blog we can see how many lives he touched even beyond what we knew. Having lost my only biological brother suddenly at 39, I have always felt very blessed to have married into this loving and special family. We will always have so many fun and wonderful memories of Rock. Rock has given us all such incredible gifts. Our gift from him is so bitter sweet. Had it not been for Rocks’ diagnosis two years ago, Chris’ colon cancer would not have been caught at such an early stage and with such a good prognosis. We Love you Bro and are eternally grateful to you for giving my soul mate the gift of life. You are forever in our hearts. Our family will remain incomplete until we all see you again!

Durring the last couple of days if have been having flashbacks of yesteryears. Its like my whole life has flashed in front of my mind. Remembering all that my brother was to me. I had been there through the good and the bad. Not only brother but roomate, bandmate, travelmate, schoolmate, partymate, soulmate. Music was our biggest connection. Our band the RELATIVES (CDs available on request) kept us close. Although at the end he was not able to play many songs because of the pain in his hands. With cousin Jim we would still make some noise. I will miss that the most. Its great to hear from everybody who will miss him eventhough I have never met most of you. I find that you have my brother figured out. He was a great friend indeed. WE WILL MISS YOU BRO. I LOVE YOU

We had a small gathering at our house last night with some friends here in the Santa Cruz area who have known Doug through Tim and I over the years. We looked at pictures and listened to a mix of "Prouty" music Dan Weiser made, and our friend Samo taught us a James Taylor song which we quickly learned and sang with our hearts...it's called "My Traveling Star."
"Watch my back and light my way
My traveling star, my traveling star
Watch over all those born St. Christopher's Day
Old road dog, young runaway
They hunger for home but they cannot stay
They wait by the door
They stand and they stare
They're already out there
They're already out there
Never mind the wind
Never mind the rain
Never mind the road leading home again
Never asking why
Never knowing when
Every now and then
There he goes again."
One can never have too many friends...Doug was a fine example of that...and I am sure thankful for all of mine right now...just as I continue to be deeply grateful that Doug was my friend...and all of yours...and that we will remember him always... and that his spirit lives on...through his family and friends.
Here's to loving Doug and loving each other!!!!

I always thought Doug would be with us. I'm not ready to embrace that he has left us, but by the way he lived his life, braved his illness with such a remarkable attitude, and loved his family, I have to give him the biggest "THANK YOU".
What stands out in my mind about Doug is how much he loved his family, and his daughter, Alexandra. He never lost his love, hope or faith for Alex, and the way he spoke of his Jeanette and Nick, the way he could make all of us laugh, the way he lived his life, I'd have to say that he is one of the few people that I know who I could say is "The Real Deal". I take comfort in knowing that he is with our Lord, and also know that He used Doug in our lives as an inspiration of what we can do with our lives.
My heart and prayers are with everyone who knew and loved Doug, all of our lives are better because we knew him.
God Bless you Doug,

There are a couple lines of a song that I think of when someone we love moves on from here...someone else is welcoming them on the other side:
When I get where I'm going, on the far side of the sky.
The first thing I'm gonna do is spread my wings and fly.
When I get where I'm going, there'll be only happy tears.
When I get where I'm going and I see my Maker's face, I'll stand forever in the light of his amazing grace.
When I get where I'm going there'll be only happy tears. Halleluja!
