05/31/2006: "Limbo"

Feels like I am in limbo waiting for Thursday's big scan. I will have my 4th or 5th PET scan in a year (I suppose these things give you cancer) tomorrow. It has been a little over two months since my last one and I have not been on chemo during this time. My last visit with my Oncologist was for the results of the last scan. Though the tumor in my neck had grown a little, the ones in my lungs showed some "increased lucency." He felt that this was a good sign and attributed it to my second round of chemo and some newer drugs that I was on. He wanted to keep up treatments and really go after it. That's when I decided to take a "health break." He was not happy.

So the last two+ months I have been concentrating on alternative methods and the results of my effort are dependent on the outcome of tomorrow's scan. Not only is it important for my own life, it will also determine whether I go back on chemo and even try radiation. Those are not options that I am looking forward to. I much prefer trying to make myself as healthy as possible as opposed to drugging my cells to death.

So now I wait to see if the three weeks of treatment in Mexico, the vegetarian diet, the removal of all sugar & substitutes, the increased water intake, the 3 times a day - fist full of supplements, and the yoga have paid off. Stay tuned

Hey Doug

Helen told me about your site. Great way to process your journey. Having fought my own battle with a serious illiness, I applaud the approach you are taking to life your life to the fullest. Thats the key to winning the battle, keep fighting and not giving in no matter what happens. I hope today's news is the best and you are on the road back to a normal and long life. You always inspire me with your approach to things, never taking the easy road, always trying to be the best you can. Thanks for all the times you supported me in my life and I look forward to laughing and talking with you again soon. Hang tough and never give up until you have won.

You have to get well so you can come over here and we can run together in red square or walk the streets of Venna. I read where you love jackets, its ok to also spend some money on dye (I remember you use to tell me I spent too much to look young)

Take Care my Friend,
Mike

hey Uncle Rock! I have been praying for you everyday. When I pray for you and your family I feel nothing but postive energy around me so I know in my heart and soul that your tests are going to show postive results. All this work you have done to clean up your body will pay off. I have myself started to take steps for my family and I to eat better. Myself no more red meat, pork or processed meat.(which means no more of my costco hot dogs!) just fish and maybe chicken. I spent 3 hrs at the store this week because I was reading all the labels and making sure that it had "acceptable" ingredients. Harder than I expected alot of what I use to buy never made it back to my cart. Its hard to limit the kids but I did alot without them realizing it. I just can't get them past the no red meat though. I do have alot of fish I can slip in now instead. I couldn't have them give up their mac and cheese yet so I only bought enough to have for a once a week treat. You know its tough in our household because of the culture that the kids grew up in is to feed, feed, feed full meals at the mere mention of being a little hungry, there is no such thing of a light snack before dinner-its more like 2 dinners. Then trying to break the bad habit of Dad and Grandma putting more food on their plate before they are done with the 1st helping or making them eat when they say they aren't hungry.(the kids complain to me about the last one) It is tough and my hats off to you for being able to get everyone to eat better.
Love you lots hope to be over soon to visit.
